Embracing Progress in 2024 | Peter Hughes
A colleague asked me a question I liked. Instead of a long list of New Year goals, choose one word that captures the mindset you want for the year. I landed on progress. Why this works for me Goals can be motivating, but they can also create pressure. A single word is lighter. It is flexible. It gives you direction without boxing you in. Progress is about small improvements that compound. It is the opposite of perfection. It is steady, practical, and forgiving when life gets messy. How I am using it - Pick one habit to improve at a time, then keep it boring and consistent. - Make space for reflection, even if it is short. - Notice what is working, and do more of that. - When something slips, restart quickly without drama. A simple monthly check in I am keeping this grounded with a monthly reflection. What moved forward. What held me back. What I will adjust next month. The point is not judgement. The point is learning. If 2024 becomes a year of progress, not perfection, that will be a win.
