Springing into a Better Me | Peter Hughes
I have spent too many years not making time for exercise. It is not just about fitness. It is about energy, mood, and being present for the people around you. This year we have made a simple family decision. Move more, in ways we can actually stick to. Keep it varied My wife has taken up rowing with a local club. I have found my rhythm in swimming, and the odd gym session when it makes sense. The key for us is variety, because boredom kills habits. Team sports and belonging When we moved away from Donegal in 2022, we felt the change in our family dynamic. The kids lost some of the automatic community that comes with team sports and local routines. So we are being intentional about it. Football, basketball, rugby, whatever they enjoy. The goal is not trophies. The goal is friendships, confidence, and a sense of belonging. Work, rest, and boundaries We have always been industrious. Sometimes too industrious. It is easy to let work expand into every space if you do not guard the edges. This year we are practicing clearer boundaries so there is more room for play, rest, and the kind of calm that makes the busy seasons easier. Balance is not a destination. It is a practice. This is our attempt to practice it better.
